Project
119 Heretaunga Street East
Seismic strengthening as part of the H Central precinct revitalisation on Heretaunga Street East.
Brief
119 Heretaunga Street East sits in the middle of the H Central precinct in central Hastings — a row of older buildings being repurposed into a new mixed-use development alongside its neighbours at 117 and 131. Each building was assessed and strengthened separately to suit its own construction and target use.
Approach
EQSE’s brief was to bring the existing structure up to a seismic capacity appropriate for the new use without removing the heritage character of the street frontage. We assessed the existing structure, identified the critical load paths, and developed a strengthening scheme that worked with the building rather than over-imposing on it.
Outcome
Construction is progressing in staged works as fit-outs across the wider H Central precinct come on line. The strengthening preserves the building’s contribution to the Heretaunga Street streetscape while supporting the revitalisation of central Hastings.
