131 Heretaunga Street East

Brief

131 Heretaunga Street East is the third H Central building EQSE assessed and strengthened. The footprint is larger than its neighbours at 117 and 119, and the staging of construction had to dovetail with how the wider precinct was being commissioned.

Approach

The structural design was completed in stages, mirroring the construction sequence so trades could move into completed zones while later phases were still being detailed. Existing structural elements that passed assessment were kept in service; strengthening was concentrated where the seismic capacity gap was largest.

Outcome

Work remains in progress and is being delivered alongside the rest of the H Central programme. The completed strengthening will allow the building to accommodate its new commercial tenancies for decades to come.
